Finding Light in the Darkness
To the mother of a colicky newborn,
I see you standing by the crib, frozen with emotions too frenzied for words.
Not knowing why the screams won’t stop.
Knowing that you can barely take it anymore.
The walls are closing in.
The waves of exhaustion are rocking your body.
The tears come.
You sit down because you can barely stand.
The room is dark, and the screams continue.
You can’t make them stop.
You have tried everything, and nothing works.
You have cried out to God, and in your dark haze, doubted he heard your call.
Please know that one day, the dark clouds will lift.
The piercing, painful cries will fade away.
God will have brought you through to the other side.
The days of darkness will start to disappear, and the sun will start to shine.
You will savor the smiles and the laughter.
The squeals of delight.
The most beautiful sound to a momma's weary, weathered heart.
And one day soon, you will look back and see that you were never alone.
God was there, standing by you in the shadows.
Holding your weary heart, and your shaky hands.
Carrying you when your knees felt too weak to stand.
Giving you the strength to go on.
Know that one day the clouds will clear and the storm will pass.
Know that if you lean on Him in the madness, you will come out stronger on the other side.
Know that one day you will find purpose in the pain.
I pray your dark time helps you lead other struggling mommas into the light.
I pray that you point them to the One who was there all along.
The One who loves you beyond comprehension.
The One who will never leave your side.
The divine comforter, healer and friend.
Jesus
