The Gospel Comes With a House Key

Agape Moms’ Gospel-centered resource recommendation this week is “The Gospel Comes with a House Key“ by Rosaria Butterfield.

Hear the story of how a very unlikely person, who was deep in a lifestyle of rebellion and completely lost from God, came to know Christ through intentional relationship and invitation to regular gatherings with believers over the table.

Rosaria then gives us a front seat to her transformed life. We get to hear and see what living out radical, Biblical hospitality looks like on a moment by moment basis. From the way they budget, to the way they pray, invite and open up their home, you will be practically inspired to adopt this as your own lifestyle, in your own God-led way.

Welcoming the Stranger at Your Table

That’s what welcoming is, it starts with “Hi, how are you?” and an invitation to the table that is not, and I would say should not be, “perfect”. The goal is not to put our best foot forward. Sure we want all guests to feel comfortable but perfection is not the way to do that, authenticity is. If the goal is Pinterest hospitality then you are the focus and not the relationship. It’s ok for things to be awkward and even feel like your striking out. That shows your authenticity and invites your neighbor to show theirs.

Because Jesus Eats With Everyone

This week, we are talking about gathering the stranger with us at our tables. I cannot wait for you to hear from my friend and our guest blogger, Becca Voight, whose family is such an example of devoting their life to this very thing.

In the meantime, let’s begin to pray and think about who we can be gathering at our tables during this holiday season. Who are the forgotten, the lonely, those who cannot repay us the favor?

Finding Joy in the Face of Fear

Fear…its a feeling we all experience at varying degrees from childhood to adulthood. From monsters we thought were lurking under our beds to the what ifs we question over and over as grownups: Fear strikes us all. Moms, I know you’ll agree with me, fear is taken to a new level as we enter and then experience motherhood. There’s nothing quite like it.

When Fear is Crippling, God’s Word Anchors Our Hearts

Struggling with worry is one thing before you have kids, but once these fears involve our children, it’s enough to push us over the edge and really bring us to our knees. A dear Agape Mama, Lauren Smith, will be sharing her journey with her daughter’s medical challenges and God’s faithfulness with us tomorrow on the Agape Moms Blog that you won’t want to miss!

Whatever you’re facing this week, take it straight to the Lord. When the lack of control, the lies and the weight of it all overwhelms you, recite God’s Word to yourself and allow His truth to anchor your heart despite whatever other things seem louder or truer.

Keeping Christ at the Center of Christmas Inspiration Blitz!

Wow, what a fun, and surprisingly wonderful turnout of 18 ideas for our “How to Keep Christ at the Center of Christmas Inspiration Blitz” that first occurred on our Instagram and Facebook pages, and is complied here for reference. When I first started this idea on a whim on Monday, I thought maybe we would get a handful of submissions, but it was truly inspiring to collect so many special and treasured ideas from everyday moms just like you.

Agape Moms’ mission is equipping moms to make disciples in everyday, messy mom life and one way we do that is collaboratively, with our community driven blog, and with blog posts like this, that highlight as many voices and stories as possible. We’re stronger together, and we can learn so much from each other! Our prayer is that your family will be inspired to adopt some new traditions that will be fun and that will help our kids to truly treasure Christ, not just during the holiday season, but every day of the year.

Keeping Christ at the Center of Christmas

Happy Monday back after Thanksgiving break. Woo, what a weekend, huh? Not only did our family move into our new home about a week ago (with 3 kids in tow), but we managed to cook an allergy friendly thanksgiving dinner, and then deck the halls for Christmas.

I know I’m not the only one feeling the rush and busyness that this time of year brings, and while I absolutely love Christmas time, there’s a lot about it that wearies my soul. Theres so much swirling around us and if we don’t make a very intentional effort, we too easily become distracted from the purpose of it all, which is why I’m so excited that our theme this week is keeping Christ at the center of Christmas!

Thanksgiving When Your Heart Aches

My husband and I had a miscarriage this year. It was, by far, one of the most trying and painful experiences of my life and of our marriage. So many emotions rattled around inside of me: sadness, guilt, worry, anger…

Where does thankfulness come in during a season such as this? How do you reconcile what you’re feeling with what God’s word tells you?

Thanksgiving in Light of the Gospel

  | Thanksgiving in light of the gospel |

Finding our life in Christ changes everything about our list of what we are thankful for this year. Maybe you’re struggling this year to put anything on that list, maybe everything has gone wrong, or your heart is aching, as our guest blogger, Jennifer Goldstein will be sharing tomorrow about how the devastatingloss of a miscarriage is pushing her towards Christ and His promises more than ever this year.

Be encouraged, dear sisters that the gospel changes us from the inside out. We don’t grieve or hope the way the world does, in quickly passing treasure, instead our hope is firmly fixed in Christ, and our life is now hidden with Him on high!

If you’re struggling this week, shift your perspective and look up, allow Christ to fill your heart to the brim with who He is and who you are in Him. When you see the impossible, the heartbreak, and the good, may it be infused with the thanksgiving that only comes from being found in Christ.

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” #mondaymotivation

Interview: Living on Mission for Jesus in Everyday, Messy Mom-Life

It was such a joy to get to share on Freedom in Motherhood a bit about Agape Moms and living on mission for Jesus in our everyday, messy mom-lives! I have absolutely loved getting to know Stephanie Tanner, discovering her and I both have a shared mission of encouraging moms in the gospel, not just on our social pages, but in our everyday lives. If you missed Stephanie’s guest post on the Agape Moms Blog a few weeks ago, click here to read it.

One of my biggest goals, and the heart behind Agape Moms is creating unity and collaboration with other gospel-centered ministries, always pointing our readers back to as many other resources as possible! I have been so encouraged by the Biblical teaching, resources and community of Freedom and Motherhood, and I hope you will follow along with them too if you have an instagram account.

Below is my interview with Stephanie on Freedom in Motherhood, shared with permission here for those who don’t have an instagram. I hope it encourages you to live on mission for Jesus in your everyday, messy mom-life!

As We Are Going

#mondaymotivation. God is calling you to live on mission for Jesus in your everyday messy mom-life.

I remember learning back in Bible college that the original Greek word for “go” in this well known passage is in a tense that actually means “as you are going.” This realization changes everything. This command goes from being only for special occasions like mission trips to being for everyday moms like you and me.

If you’re ever wondered what the mission of your life should be, let me present to you this invitation from God, a call to love God and others with your life and with the power God will supply.

Will it be messy? Absolutely. Will it be beautiful to have a front row seat to witness the gospel taking root and bearing fruit in and around you? Oh yes my friend, God will use it to grip you with his grace is ways you’d never expect.

I wouldn’t trade this lifestyle of living on mission for Jesus for anything more comfortable because we were made by God for this!

I can’t wait to unpack this more this week!

Start An Agape Moms, One Prayerful Step at a Time

This is a very rare #kidfreeselfie of me ALONE in my minivan last night. I’m still in awe of how God was working after an exciting, yet nerve-wracking meeting I had, and that many prayer over. Starting another Agape Moms has been something I’ve been praying about before I even moved here, and if anyone knows the amount of prayer and millions of God ordained steps it takes to start one, it’s me. I’ve already seen him do the impossible, which makes me believe he can and will do it again, in his time and according to his will.

I’ve only been in my new state of Washington for 7 months, but from day one I’ve been

Is Motherhood a Woman’s Highest Calling?

What would you say if I told you that your worth and your value as a woman do not depend on your being a mom? Would you believe me? If you're anything like I was for several years, you may struggle to believe this. But it is true!

I went through a years-long phase of legalism as a teen, a phase in which I believed that a woman's entire purpose was summed up in her fulfilling the roles of wife, mother, and homemaker. What I didn't realize at the time was that in saying such a thing, I wasn't only leaving out the countless amazing women out there who never get married or never have children, depriving them in my mind of ever being able to do great things for God. I was also heaping a heavy burden on the shoulders of mamas everywhere, inadvertently encouraging them to base their identity and find their worth in what kind of mothers they were. Clearly, this notion was a lose-lose situation for all of us as women!

I believed it for a long time, but I don't any longer
